Growing Dahlias as Pot Tubers: Saving Space, Time & Labor with Ann Bailey from Bailey’s Blooms @bailey.s.blooms.2023 /// Demonstration Class

Discover how pot tubers can simplify your dahlia patch while boosting your bloom yield. By planting cuttings or tubers inside six-inch pots buried in the soil, Ann Bailey successfully manages over 1,000 dahlias across 12 rows using minimal space, water, and labor. This efficient approach produces full-size, prolific plants all summer while keeping root systems compact, yielding clumps of 3 to 8 viable tubers and even more flowers the following season.

Nestled between Utah Lake and the Wasatch Mountains in Lehi, Utah, Bailey’s Blooms is a licensed 11-acre nursery run by Ann Bailey. Over her 30 years on the farm—and 13 years growing dahlias—Ann has dedicated her land to producing luscious alfalfa, diverse cut flowers, and over 400 dahlia varieties. This past season alone, she cultivated 1,050 plants. Uniquely growing her dahlias exclusively as pot tubers to minimize space, water, and labor, she supplies stems, tubers, seeds, and cuttings to local florists, wedding designers, and garden enthusiasts.
At the heart of Ann’s work is her mission of “Spreading Sunshine.” Most of her sales proceeds go directly toward gifting floral arrangements to local businesses and individuals to lift their spirits. An active member of the Utah Dahlia Society and the Utah Cut Flower Farmers Association, Ann freely shares her passion by teaching classes at Thanksgiving Point’s Ashton Gardens, leading youth and adult floral arranging workshops, and hosting sanitary “You-Pick” events for the community.

MACARONS with Breanna Lay @macaronsbybreanna /// Demo & Hands-on Hybrid Workshop

Macarons may have a reputation for being fussy, but once you learn the secrets behind them they become one of the most delightful and impressive treats you can make. In this warm and welcoming workshop, Breanna will walk you through the entire process, starting with a clear and encouraging demonstration on how to create perfect macaron shells, which is the trickiest part. After that, you will jump into the fun yourself as you fill, decorate, and customize pre baked shells, creating a beautiful assortment of macarons to take home or enjoy right on the spot.

This class is designed with beginners in mind and includes everything you need for a sweet and successful experience. Come ready to learn, create, and savor some truly delicious cookies!

DATE: Saturday evening, October 3rd
TIME: 6:30pm - 8:30pm
COST: $55 ($5 off if you bring a pal)
WHO’S INVITED: Anyone age 12+ (If you want to accompany a child younger than 12, let us know! If you’re there to supervise, that works for us!)

TEACHER: Breanna Lay (@macaronsbybreanna) is a macaron baker who was born, raised, and still currently lives in West Jordan, Utah. She is married and has three young kids, which means she does all of her baking early in the morning or late at night while they’re asleep. 😊
Breanna has always enjoyed eating macarons and heard how challenging macarons are to make. Instead of buying them from other places, she decided to take on the challenge and figure out how to bake these finicky little cookies. She took a shift from cake decorating and started focusing on macarons. After many failed attempts and recipe searching, she was finally able to come out with a successful batch of cookies. She has baked thousands of macarons over the past 5 years for many special occasions and custom orders. She’s excited to teach this workshop and grateful for this opportunity.
