Mrs. Duke's Summer Book Club

Join us for Mrs. Duke's Summer Book Club! We will be reading award winning books & doing fun activities to foster a love of reading!

This camp is for children who love to read or who are learning to love reading ages 7-12. Camps are offered by age group.

We will focus on reading books that are Caldecott, and Newberry award winning books or are part of the National Battle of the Book list. Each camp will last for 1 hr and 15 minutes and will include read-a-loud time, silent reading and partner reading. I will also incorporate fun learning activities that tie to each book we are reading.

Children will be expected to read independently for 15-30 minutes each camp depending on age. I will choose age appropriate books and themes for each week.

Children will be given a book to read each camp and will be expected to come to the next week’s camp having completed the reading for that week. We will then dive into the story with journaling, book talks and an activity.

TEACHER: Amy Duke, elementary school teacher at Alpine Elementary

Hello, my name is Amy Duke. I've been in the classroom helping to educate children in one way or another as a room mom, aide and now as a certified teacher for the last 6 years. I have been teaching  third grade at Alpine Elementary for the last 5 years and I have met many wonderful families over the years. I believe in offering children enjoyable learning experiences that foster confidence and a love for learning. Reading books with rich language, imaginative ideas and great stories are a wonderful way to share my passion for teaching children to love learning.

I grew up in Redwood City, California, and moved to Utah in 1994 to attend USU. Since settling in Alpine with my family in 2014, I've come to love the small community here. In my free time, I enjoy camping, gardening, and spending quality moments with my family and of course reading!

Reading has always been a cherished activity in my family. Now that my children are grown, I miss the shared experience of reading together. That's why I'm excited to continue encouraging young readers to discover their love for reading through engaging stories and fun activities. I look forward to offering our community fun and captivating stories that I hope will create lifelong readers and memories this summer.

CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS: Due to the nature of the prep work required for in-person events & limited seating, we are not offering refunds once a workshop has been purchased. However, if you are no longer able to attend the workshop, you can send us an email with the name of the person to whom we should transfer the ticket.
